Re-homing surplus medical equipment, supporting health facilities and building sustainable community healthcare in Uganda
Medical equipment re-homing
Our core health initiative rescues surplus, decommissioned and repairable medical equipment from healthcare institutions across Australia and other developed regions. Instead of allowing valuable resources to go to landfill, we redeploy them to strengthen healthcare systems where they are needed most.
In Uganda, the need is critical. One regional hospital serving eight districts — approximately 3.8 million people — has only 47 functional beds, no reliable oxygen supply, and an X-ray machine that has been out of service since 2020. Poor road infrastructure means many patients walk three to six hours to access care.
- Collecting and cataloguing surplus medical equipment
- Coordinating transport and international shipping
- Mobilising logistics and handling resources
- Delivering equipment directly to partner facilities
- Supporting local repair, recommissioning and training

Community Hospital Development
Golden Rainbow is establishing its first Community Hospital in Pallisa in partnership with Lifespring Nursing, Midwifery and Health Sciences Institute. The facility will expand access to care, reduce travel times for patients and ease pressure on overstretched government hospitals.
With strong support from Australian government and private hospitals, vital medical equipment has been secured for deployment. The equipment will supply regional health facilities and equip Golden Rainbow’s own hospital, helping ensure high standards of care, strong governance and long-term sustainability.
